I’m never the type of person to leave a review, good or bad, but the experience with this place was so terrible I don’t want anyone else to waste their hard earned time or money like I did. If you are on google looking for a place here in town by ratings, realize the majority of the good ratings for this place are a year or older. While Shepard’s may have done a good job building their business up in earlier years with good customer service and quality work, this is no longer the case. Let’s start with customer service. At this business, the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing. There is 0 communication between people working within the business. When you call to check on your car, the answer could vary dependent on who you talk to. You WILL need to call to check on your vehicle daily or you will be moved to the back burner as well. Apparently they have picked up a bunch of business accounts (LPD for example) and average joes get the Rosa Parks treatment. Anytime they give you a time frame, it’s a lie. These people are masters not of cars but of the “carrot on a stick” technique. “It will be done next week,” then another week and another. If you’re waiting on a part to come in for your vehicle, pick up your phone and get ready to call again because these people don’t even know what a phone is. Or at least that’s what I thought after being told continually that I’d receive a call when a part was in or for a status update. I’ve had the same issue with my vehicle for 7 months now and it still isn’t resolved. They kept my vehicle that I use for a daily driver to get to work for 2 solid months! Makes it pretty hard to survive even without a pandemic going on. Not to mention that come to find out, nothing got done in those 2 months. Literally nothing. They had to tell me they actually couldn’t fix it and had to buy a new part altogether. New part comes in, and guess what? Same issue. They even had the nerve to tell me that whoever supplies them their parts told them that they shouldn’t have sold them that part! So now we have a shop that can’t seem to stay true to their word getting parts from a vendor that knowingly sells bad parts. Shepard’s does this knowingly or simply doesn’t vet their suppliers. Regardless, it’s not my problem that you bought faulty parts. But whatever. The shop guarantees its work and I’ve already paid months in advance. Well that only seems to be the case until a certain point. Apparently if they replace the part a certain number of times (not specified) they just tell you you’re SOL, don’t issue a refund (I was told all the money I paid was for the parts that didn’t work), and you’re free to go on about your way with the same issue as before but with much less money, much more frustration, and a ton of time needlessly invested in laughable “craftsmanship” if you can call it that. Closer to mediocre con artistry in my opinion. Sure hope this third transmission they put in works but you could say my hopes are like the work I’ve received, less than average. After transmissions began being replaced, a never before seen issue begins to happen (front axle leak). I got the seal replaced and it was fine for a little. We then have to replace another transmission and the leak comes back. My intuition isn’t 100% but if you take a vehicle to get something fixed and it comes back with more issues than you dropped it off with, something isn’t being worked on correctly. I’ve lost all faith in the work that comes out of this shop and I would caution strongly before allowing people like this to “fix” your vehicle.

Gearbox repair services

GearboxRepairProcess: Inspection,DisassemblyandReassembly

Our inspection process includes a comprehensive visual inspection and can consist of non-destructive testing such as magnetic particle inspection, dye penetrant tests, and ultra-sonic testing on various components to look for surface and sub-surface cracking. A detailed report (including photography) that clearly outlines our findings and summarizes our gearbox repair scope is then submitted to the customer.

Gearbox

Once the decision to overhaul the gear drive is made, our shop technicians fully disassemble, as well as clean the unit and schedule the manufacture of replacement parts. If an opportunity exists to upgrade components or our the customer agrees that uprating the gear drive would benefit them in the long-term, our engineers make the necessary changes and incorporate them into gearbox repair and manufacturing process.

When all new and reworked components are complete, the gearbox is reassembled and spin-tested on our 600HP test stand. The testing involves measuring temperature, sound and vibration levels, tooth contact and backlash, and bearing end play. The gearbox is epoxy painted, preserved for storage, and documentation is sent back to the customer with the unit.
